New American Airlines specifications
American Airlines was hard to convince of the trijet concept. But after Douglas succeeded with it, new specification limits were made. The most important were:
*coast-to-coast range with full payload
*travel time from coast to coast within five minutes of that of the Boeing 747
*economics from coast-to-coast equal or better than the Boeing 747
*approach speed "better than the 727-100"
*performance out of La Guardia "better than the 727-200"
Douglas took the challenge again and let these new specifications flow into the DC-10A and -B.
