AIR SIAM
(Thailand)

The first private carrier to compete with Thai Airways International in Thailand was Air Siam a dynamic start-up airline which refreshed the Asian airline market for a few months. In January 1975 Air Siam inaugurated a route from Bangkok to Los Angeles via Fukuoka with a DC-10-30 leased from Mc Donnell - Douglas. The inauguration of that service was planned for 1974 when the DC-10-30 was delivered, but not only the US- and Japanese civil aviation boards delayed Air Siam’s first service, it was mainly the own government’s pro - Thai Airways politic which forced Air Siam to fly to America later than planned. This DC-10-30 was with 328 seats the one with the highest seat density all over the world and it was planned to add a second aircraft.
Due to high losses and the high competition by Thai, Air Siam had to return the DC-10 on November 10th 1976. Some weeks later, the airline was dissolved.
