CAL AIR
Cal Air is the name of the charter arm of British Caledonian and was formed on December 23rd 1982 with the simple name „British Caledonian Charter“. The airline was a joint company between British Caledonian and Rank Organisation. British Caledonian sold its stake in the company to Caledonian Leisure on October 27th 1985 and so the name "Cal Air" was introduced. The fleet still consisted of the two ex-Laker DC-10-10s which formed the fleet of British Caledonian Charter, but was added by "rolling stone" (or "hiking bird" as we say in Germany) #2 in February of 1986. Calair’s DC-10s were mainly used on charter flights to the Mediterranean where they competed with the aircraft of such companies as Monarch Airlines or Britannia. On December 7th 1988, Caledonian Leisure sold its part to Rank Organisation and the company was named Novair - a company with less success than its predecessor.
