WARDAIR CANADA
(Canada)

The first DC-10 operator in Canada was Wardair Canada, a charter airline which was at that time Canada’s third largest carrier. In the late 1970s, two DC-10-30 aircraft were ordered to replace two Boeing 707s. They were introduced in 1978 and later joined by an ex-Singapore aircraft in 1981. The DC-10s were used on charter flights to several destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico and US - holiday destinations like Hawaii and Florida. The DC-10s used on these charter flights had an all-economy configuration for 341 passengers, but some aircraft were also used on the first scheduled flights over the North Atlantic, which started on May 1st 1986, in a lower density C/Y configuration. The airline’s drop in passenger numbers in the 1980s forced the airline to replace all DC-10s and A300s with smaller A310s, so that the last DC-10 left the fleet in 1989. In the same year, Wardair was taken over by another DC-10 - operator, Canadian Airlines International. None of Wardairs aircraft, which included 747, A310 and DHC-6 aircraft, was operated over a longer period.
