THY - TÜRK HAVA YOLLARI
(Turkey)

THY - Türk Hava Yollari is less known for being an early DC-10 costumer, but for the tragical accident near Paris in 1974 which killed 346 people and marked the beginning of the publicity against the DC-10. The airline’s first two widebody aircraft were delivered in December 1972, followed by a third in February 1973. The DC-10-10s were operated until 1987, when they were transferred to charter subsidiary Bogazici Air Transport. One was again operated in 1989 for a short time until the last DC-10 went to FedEx on November 16th 1989. In 1993, a DC-10-30 was leased for a short time bringing the all-time fleet to four aircraft. The routes of the DC-10 are now operated by A310s and A340s while 737-800s operate the shorter routes.
