MARTINAIR HOLLAND
Charter operator Martinair chose the DC-10 as first widebody aircraft and began operations with their new ordered DC-10-30CF in November of 1973, which was ordered as early as 1972. Orders for four more aircraft were placed and so the the DC-10-30CF became the backbone of the fleet. Martinair operated passanger charters as well as cargo flights, so that the convertible freighter was almost tailor-made for this airline. Several airlines used Martinair’s DC-10s, not only during the Hadj seasons and so the small fleet shrinked and grew bringing the all-time fleet to five aircraft. With the arriving of three new 747s, one DC-10 left the fleet while a second one was lost in an accident on December 21st 1992. All DC-10 services were taken over by MD-11s with the last DC-10 leaving the fleet in 1995. The last DC-10 service was flown on January 19th 1995. Now, Martinair has MD-11, A320, 747-200 and 767-300ER aircraft in the fleet while two of Martinair's former DC-10 fly now for the Royal Netherlands Air Force as tanker aircraft.
