SPANTAX
Spantax was once a well-known and mighty charter-operator in Spain and dominated the market on the Spanish holiday regions in the Mediterranean Sea during the 1980s. In 1978, an ex-Overseas National DC-10 was acquired for the long-haul routes from Palma de Mallorca to the United States, but this aircraft was already lost four years later in an accident. Further DC-10s were leased during the 1980s for shorter periods, but in 1988 the airline collapsed following the consequences of the catastrophic financial situation. The fleet at that time consisted of DC-10, MD-80, DC-8 and a single 737-200.
