BIMAN BANGLADESH AIRLINES
To replace its aging Boeing 707 narrowbodies on its long-range routes to Europe, the Bangladeshi national carrier Bangladesh Biman acquired three used DC-10-30s from Singapore Airlines in 1983.
Biman was very satisfied with its DC-10s and ordered one DC-10 in the late 1980s, which was one of the last DC-10s produced (S2-ACR, "The new era"). It was delivered on December 30th 1988, bringing the fleet up to four aircraft. Two ex-Canadian aircraft became the fifth and sixth between 1999 and 2001 while further two leased DC-10s joined the fleet for a few years in the 1990s. In total, nine DC-10s were operated for or by Biman, including eight -30s and a single -15 from Transair.
Beside A310s and DC-10s, Biman also operates BAe ATPs and a pair of Fokker 28s. Bangladesh Bimans DC-10s are still regular visitors in Europe, Asia and the USA (New York) and an end of the Biman-DC-10-story is not in sight. Although Bangladesh is one of the poorer countries in our world, Bangladesh Biman is more than a dignified ambassador of its land.
