CAPITOL AIR
(USA)

Charter operator Capitol Air began DC-10 services in 1981 when two ex Western DC-10-10s were acquired for services on the scheduled services to Europe and the US trunk routes where Capitol became a serious competitor for other airlines as they had very low fares. Services included routes from New York to the West Coast and Chicago as well as to the cities of Zurich, Brussels and Frankfurt. Three aircraft from Laker where acquired, but although the carrier played a dominant role, the carrier slidded into financial problems and ceased all operations on November 25th 1984. Capitol’s DC-10s were known as "$ky $avers" and were transferred to sister company Arrow Air (which still is in business) in 1983. The other main aircraft type in the fleet was the Douglas DC-8.
