AOM FRENCH AIRLINES
(France)

After the last operation of UTA in 1988, AOM French Airlines has grown to a second force in France, but it was in the past few years that AOM became a serious competitor for the omnipotent Air France. AOM was formed in 1992 by the merger of Air Outre Mer and Minerve. The first one brought in the name which was abbreviated to AOM and both airlines operated ex SAS DC-10s to the French overseas territories. After the merger, further aircraft were acquired, including four aircraft which were originally operated by UTA. This boosted AOMs network and made it possible to operate also some long-haul routes for Cubana. DC-10s flew for AOM to several destinations in the Caribbean, South America, the Indian Ocean and to both sides of the Pacific. With 15 aircraft, AOM had the largest DC-10 - fleet in Europe. Many of them were in service on 22.09.2001 when AOM merged with Air Liberté to form Air Lib, Frances second largest air carrier.
