After having disposed the Lockheed TriStars in the time of crisis and entering Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on September 21st 1993, Hawaiian Airlines began with a fleet restructuring in 1994 and leased six DC-10-10s in two-class layout from American Airlines for long-haul services to the mainland, Japan and the South Pacific. Further aircraft were leased from American and Continental Airlines, including also the first DC-10-30s while some of the older series 10 already left the fleet. The last Hawaiian DC-10 service took place in March 2003 and now the fleet consists of leased 767-300ER and 717 aircraft.
